The Jonathan Slusher Memorial Scholarship Foundation announced their 2015 Scholarship winners. Each scholarship is $1,000 and are awarded to high school seniors who express an interest in Journalism/Communications. The 2015 winners are:
- Charles Garrett, IV, from Voorhees High School
- Jonathan Spelletti, Hunterdon Central
- Jacqueline Petrullo, West Morris Central
- Nicklaus Green from Mendham and from Mt. Olive
- Samantha Grillo, Mt. Olive
- Sabrina Negron, Mt. Olive
Fees from the annual Jon Slusher 5K Run/Walk support the awards. The 2015 Jon Slusher Run/Walk will take place during Califon’s Festival Day at 1 PM on October 4, 2015.
The Jon Slusher 5K Run/Walk will start when runners gather at the bridge, proceed down River Road, loop left at Hoffman’s Crossing and then proceed down the Columbia Trail to the historic Califon Train Station. For family members who do not participate in the event, entertainment is available at various venues at the street festival.
The Race/Walk is a USATF Grand Prix event. Athletes belonging to USA Track and Field, New Jersey, will receive a reduced application fee and earn 500 points toward cash prizes given by USATF. The entry fee is $25 until October 1, 2015. After October 1, the entry fee increases to $30. Children 10 and under have a registration fee of $5. Entries of families of four or more have a combined fee of $40.
There are some changes in registration for this year. Age categories will be broken down by age as follows:
- Group 9 to 14
- Group 15 to 19
- Group 20 to 29
- Group 30 to 39
- Group 40 to 49
- Group 50 to 59
- Group 60 to 69
- Group 70 to 80+
Trophies will be given for the winning overall runner, (male or female), and to top athletes in the male, female and walker categories. First, second and third place medals are given in each category, and ribbons will be given to all children participating in the fun run.
The Jonathan Slusher Scholarship Foundation is a 501-c-3 charity and all donations are tax deductible.
