Maryjane Medea – Rutgers Teacher of the Year

January 2, 2015

Rutgers Center for Literacy Development (RCDL) announced a statewide all-call for the nomination of teachers for the selection of the Rutgers Teacher of the Year Award. Rutgers is honored to celebrate teachers who are committed to improving the education of young readers and writers in our state.

This year, Califon’s very own Maryjane Medea was among two candidates chosen to receive this special recognition based on letters of recommendation and professional development centered on literacy. Maryjane teaches fourth grade students at the Califon Public School. Maryjane’s teaching techniques engage her students in a program that promotes literacy through authentic and varied learning opportunities.

In addition to being honored at the RCLD’s December 12, 2014 literacy workshop with Debbie Miller, Maryjane’s accomplishment will be announced at the Rutgers 47th Annual Conference on Reading and Writing. Maryjane will also receive a $250 award and a free year’s membership to the RCLD that will facilitate her continued professional growth and development.

The Califon Public School’s website, www.califonschool.org  features a video clip on its landing page that captures the essence of an exciting and balanced language arts literacy program.
