Annual 5K Jon Slusher Run/Walk

The 2014 Jon Slusher 5K Run/Walk will once again take place in Califon as an event within the Califon Street Fair. Runners will gather at the bridge in Califon and at 1 PM on Sunday, October 5, and will follow the course down River Road, loop to the left at Hoffman’s Crossing to enter the Columbia Trail and finish at the Califon Train Station.

For family members who do not choose to run or walk, the street fair provides entertainment and interest. This year, the USATF-NJ Grand Prix has added the Jon Slusher 5K Run/Walk to their roster. This means runners who are members of the USA Track and Field will receive 500 points for running the race, a discounted application fee and are eligible for Grand Prix Cash Prizes. In addition, a 70–90 year age category has been added with an accompanying trophy.

Jonathan was the victim of brain cancer and lost his heroic and courageous fight in 2010. He was an avid runner whose passion was journalism, so his family decided to sponsor an annual 5K Run for funding journalism/communication scholarships to honor their son and brother.

Enabled by generous donations and the annual Jon Slusher 5K Run/Walk, the Jonathan Slusher Memorial Scholarship Foundation (501-C-3 charity) has awarded 13 scholarships of $1,000 each in the past three years. The  2014 scholarship winners are:
