As a shop owner in beautiful downtown Califon, (eventually, when the construction is completed!!), I have had the privilege of meeting many local residents and always brag to visitors how lucky we are to live here.
No place is perfect of course, but the residents of Califon are generally hard working, optimistic people that care a lot about our town and their neighbors.
We have become a young community. Clarke and I have seen the change, from when we first moved here 27 years ago. We were the young outsiders, now we’re the old guard… but the feeling of community has always been present over these years. The Califon Fire Department and the Califon School are like the beating heart of Califon and they often help bring our community together. I would be remiss not to mention the crew at Borough Hall. They work hard making tough decisions and take a lot of slack. There will always be ups and downs; it is human nature, but somehow there is an ebb and flow to our little community that just works.
The last few months we have been experiencing major construction on Main Street and none of us like it; but, because we are resilient, we will make it work. Let’s keep on being positive and realize that this is all being done to help make our community a better place to live and work.
I’ve been telling folks that my shop is busier than ever and I don’t understand it, but that’s just it; nothing stops our people from getting our mission accomplished! We carry on. Bravo to us all!
