CALIFON, NJ – 2018 marks the 100th Anniversary of Califon Borough as an incorporated municipality. In commemoration of this significant milestone, the Califon Recreation Committee is planning a weekend of festivities this Fall. The celebration will be held Friday, October 12th through Sunday, October 14th and will be packed full of activities that celebrate the town’s history and its residents.
The weekend will start off with bang! Come on down to the Firemen’s Field located behind the Municipal Building at 39 Academy Street. The Califon Firemen will be cooking hot dogs and hamburgers from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Bring your lawn chairs for a night under the stars with food, a beer garden, fire truck rides, a bonfire and fireworks.
Walking tours of Califon’s historic district will be offered Saturday morning at 10 AM and 12 PM. This interesting and educational tour will visit the Nellie Hoffman House, the Cabin by the River, the Califon Train Stations and the 2nd floor of Rambo’s Country Store. Guests are also welcome to stop by the Califon Historical Society Museum at the Califon Train Station, as well as the Nellie Hoffman House and the Cabin by the River.
The Califon Public School, also celebrating its 100th birthday in 2018, will be offering an Open House and tours of the school between 10 AM and 1 PM. Stop by for refreshments, meet teachers and students and see all that is happening at Califon School in 2018!
Following the historic tours, all are welcomed to gather at Califon Island Park at 2 PM for the 100th Anniversary Ceremony. Mayor, Charlie Daniel, along with several guest speakers, will speak about Califon’s history. The time capsule, buried in the park 25 years ago, will be opened and a new one will replace it. Guests will also be able to enjoy a classic car show and food trucks.
The weekend will come to a close Sunday with the 6th Annual Autumn Street Fair and Jon Slusher 5K. This year’s event will be bigger and better than ever! Stroll downtown Califon from 12 PM to 4 PM and enjoy food, vendors, live music, a beer garden and more.
