  • Who can I call about a street light that is out?

To report a streetlight outage, call: 1-888-544-4877. Say “Streetlight Problem” after the greeting. Or you can report this on line at: www.firstenergycorp.com. Under Outages, select “Report Streetlight Problems”.

You will need to know the address the streetlight is located (nearest cross street, nearest house #) and if possible, the number on the streetlight pole.

 

  • Who do I contact for building permits?

Califon has a shared service with Tewksbury Township Building Department. They are located at 108 Fairmount Road West, Califon, NJ 07830- 908-439-0022.

 

  • Do I need a permit to put up a shed, deck, patio, fence?

 

  • How do I know if I am in the Historic District?

You need to contact the Zoning Officer and he will look it up and let you know.

 

  • When is Historic Preservation Approval Required?

 

  • Who do I call if I see a suspicious wild animal?

Stay away from the animal and call our Animal Control Officer, Tim Norton at 908-339-1109.

 

  • Who do I call about a lost dog?

First call the Municipal Office 832-7850 and they may be able to locate the owner by the tag #. If there is no tag or if it is after hours, call our ACO, Tim at 339-1109.

 

  • Who do I contact for a PERC test (soil log for septic)?

Contact the Municipal Offices- 908-832-7850 ext. 201 or ext. 204.

 

  • Where can I get an application for a septic repair/ replacement?

The Hunterdon County Division of Public Health Services, oversees and issues all septic repairs and replacements.
