There’s a great deal of confusion about the 2020 general election, so we hope to clarify and answer any questions with the information here.
ALL active registered voters will receive a mail-in ballot. This is not a sample ballot, this is your actual ballot. Hunterdon County ballots have been going out alphabetically by municipality and Califon voters have already received them. If you haven’t received your ballot, please contact the county clerk, Mary Melfi at at (908)788-1214 or ecountyclerk@co.hunterdon.nj.
When your ballot arrives, read it carefully and follow the instructions to complete it and return it. You can even track your ballot through the process and know when’s received and when it’s counted. Start by saving the envelope your ballot comes in, which has your voter ID on it:
Return your ballot. You have several options:
- You can mail your ballot, although the USPS has warned that delays are possible, if not likely.
- You can also bring your ballot to one of twelve secure video-monitored drop boxes in the county. These are the closest ones for us:
- GLEN GARDNER BOROUGH: Glen Gardner Municipal Building, 83 Main St., Glen Gardner NJ 08826
- LEBANON TOWNSHIP: Lebanon Township Municipal Building, 530 West Hill Road, Glen Gardner, NJ 08826 (will be installed no later than 10/1/20.)
- TEWKSBURY TOWNSHIP: Tewksbury Township Municipal Building, 169 Old Turnpike Rd, Califon NJ 07830 (will be installed no later than 10/1/20.)
- You can return you ballot directly to the Hunterdon County Board of Elections located in the Historic Court House, 3rd Floor, 71 Main Street, Flemington, NJ
Track your ballot. Go to https://voter.svrs.nj.gov/auth/sign-up to sign up and track your ballot!
Finally, let’s get a few things straight. There is some misinformation floating around that you can vote in-person. Not exactly. If you show up at your polling place to vote on November 3, you’ll be given a provisional ballot. Provisional ballots are counted last after all regular ballots (in this case, mail-in).
Also, all Postal Customers in the US may have received these official notices by USPS. Please note that they contain information that does not apply to everyone in every state. In NJ, all active registered voters will automatically receive their mail-in (Vote By Mail) ballots no later than Oct. 5, 2020. NO additional postage is necessary: all return envelopes have PREPAID postage.
Here’s what the postcard looks like:
Yes, it might sound confusing. A very useful video that our county clerk, Mary Melfi has made explains the entire process. She has also posted a comprehensive document that walks you, step-by-step through the entire vote-by-mail process. We recommend you take a look at both.
If you have any questions, contact Mary Melfi at (908)788-1214 or ecountyclerk@co.hunterdon.nj. right away. Your vote matters!
