REMINDER- NO PARKING ON BOROUGH STREETS WHEN SNOW IS PRESENT

December 13, 2024

As winter approaches, I would like to remind residents that the Borough has an Ordinance (10.04.060) that prohibits parking on either side of Borough Streets when snow is on the ground. Our plow, salt, and sand trucks need a clear passage during snow to maintain the streets. It would be appreciated if you would distribute this letter to your tenants so they can arrange where they can park when snow is anticipated.

I know parking is limited in Califon, but the plow trucks must plow the streets, and they cannot be held liable if a car is plowed in or towed because the owner fails to move it.

Below is the Ordinance:

10.04.060 – Temporary parking prohibition for snow plowing and removal.

Whenever snow has fallen and the accumulation is such that it covers the streets or highways, an emergency shall exist and no vehicle shall be parked on the streets or highways or portions thereof indicated.

The above parking prohibitions shall remain in effect after the snow has ceased until the streets have been plowed sufficiently and to the extent that parking will not interfere with the normal flow of traffic.

Any unoccupied vehicle parked or standing in violation shall be deemed a nuisance and a menace to the safe and proper regulation of traffic and any police officer may provide for the removal of such vehicle. The owner shall pay the reasonable costs of the removal and storage which may result from such removal before regaining possession of the vehicle.
