SNOW REMINDERS- NO PARKING ON BOROUGH STREETS and PLEASE CLEAR YOUR SIDEWALKS OF SNOW & ICE

December 13, 2024

Borough Ordinance (10.04.060) prohibits parking on either side of Borough Streets when snow is on the ground. Our plow, salt, and sand trucks need a clear passage during snow to maintain the streets. If you have tenants, please distribute this letter to your tenants so they don’t park on the street when snow is anticipated.  We understand that parking is limited in Califon, but the plow trucks must be able to completely plow the streets, and they cannot be held liable if a car is plowed in or towed because the owner fails to move it. Cars may be ticketed or towed if left on the street during snow/ice events.

Additionally, Borough Ordinance (8.20.010) requires that snow and ice must be removed from the sidewalks within 12 hours.  Failure to do will result in a summons, and the Borough clearing the sidewalk and billing the resident for the work.

Below are the Ordinances:

10.04.060 – Temporary parking prohibition for snow plowing and removal.

Whenever snow has fallen and the accumulation is such that it covers the streets or highways, an emergency shall exist and no vehicle shall be parked on the streets or highways or portions thereof indicated.

The above parking prohibitions shall remain in effect after the snow has ceased until the streets have been plowed sufficiently and to the extent that parking will not interfere with the normal flow of traffic.

Any unoccupied vehicle parked or standing in violation shall be deemed a nuisance and a menace to the safe and proper regulation of traffic and any police officer may provide for the removal of such vehicle. The owner shall pay the reasonable costs of the removal and storage which may result from such removal before regaining possession of the vehicle.

8.20.010 – Snow and Ice Removal required
