Medicare is the health insurance program offered by the federal government to those aged 65 and over, along with some younger people who have certain disabilities. In New Jersey, over 1.1 million people are enrolled in Original Medicare. Most people don’t pay a premium for Part A coverage, but if neither you nor your spouse has paid Medicare taxes for a certain number of years, you could end up paying up to $471 monthly for this coverage. Part B has a standard monthly premium of $149, but depending on your income, you may qualify for lower monthly payments. There are 21 Medicare Advantage Plans available in New Jersey for those interested in a more comprehensive solution.
