The Tax Assessor office hours are the second Wednesday of each month from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM.

In compliance with state statutes, as well as procedures set forth by the County Board of Taxation, the Assessor values and assesses all real property in the Borough of Califon for the purpose of equitable distribution of the real property tax requirements of the municipality, as well as the school system and county government.

Tax DeductionsThe following programs are available for Senior Citizens, Disabled Persons and Veterans:

● Annual Property Tax Deduction for Senior Citizens, Disabled PersonsAnnual deduction of $250 from property taxes for homeowners age 65 or older or disabled who meet certain income and residency requirements. Please file the following claim form with your assessor and/or collector:

Annual Deduction for Veterans: Annual deduction of up to $250 from taxes due on real or personal property of qualified war veterans and their unmarried surviving spouses/surviving civil union partners/surviving domestic partners. Appeals: Any taxpayer contemplating filing an appeal is encouraged to contact the Assessor’s Office to discuss their assessments, review property data and closed sales. If you decide to pursue an appeal with the Hunterdon County Tax Board, forms and instructions can be found on this

● Property Tax Exemption for Disabled VeteransFull exemption from property taxes on a principal residence for certain totally and permanently disabled war veterans and their unmarried surviving spouses/surviving civil union partners/surviving domestic partners. Unmarried surviving spouses/surviving civil union partners/surviving domestic partners of service persons who died on wartime active duty may also qualify.
